General (8)

Many people assume that underfloor heating only works with hard flooring such as tiles and laminate, but carpet is also a suitable floor covering choice for underfloor heating.
Electric Underfloor heating is a popular heating method and ideal in bathrooms and kitchens, but it can be used anywhere in the house. Using underfloor heating instead of radiators is possible and depending on your heat loss, you can even get rid of radiators completely.
Yes, electric underfloor heating systems require very little maintenance and are very reliable.
Yes, electric underfloor heating can be used in a variety of different rooms and settings, including bathrooms, kitchens, and living areas.
When choosing an electric underfloor heating system, consider the type of flooring, room size, power source, and control options.
The benefits of electric underfloor heating include increased comfort, energy efficiency, easy installation, low maintenance, and versatility.
Electric underfloor heating systems consist of electric heating elements that are installed under the floor. The elements are typically made of thin, flexible wires or mats that are easy to install. They are connected to a thermostat and a power source, and are controlled by a simple on/off switch or a programmable thermostat. When the heating system is turned on, the electric elements begin to heat up. As the floor warms, it radiates heat into the room, warming the surfaces and objects in the room.
If you’ve experienced the comfort of a warm floor, you may not want to give it up, even on cool summer nights. However, most heating systems used as a primary source are usually turned off during summer.

Installation (1)

To determine the total load of your heating mat, check the label attached to the end of the box, which specifies the mat’s total power. As an example, a 150 watt heating mat covering 10 square meters would have a total power of 150 x 10 = 1500 watts or 1.5 kilowatt. To calculate the current, divide the 1500 watts by the supply voltage of 230 volts, resulting in 6.52 Amps. It’s important to provide your electrician with this information to ensure proper sizing of the power supply for your heating mat. If you have any questions or need assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out to our technical support team.

Insulation (3)

The way the insulation boards are fixed to the subfloor depends on the base type. On a concrete base, the insulation boards are put down with a suitable flexible tile adhesive. The boards should be laid with staggered joints and once the flexible tile adhesive hardens, the joints should be re-enforced with glass fibre tape. On a wooden subfloor, the insulation boards should be put down with a suitable flexible tile adhesive and as with concrete subfloors, the insulation boards should have staggered joints. When the adhesive has set, but not necessarily dried completely, the boards should be fixed using wood screws and washers. The insulation boards should be screwed down at 200mm centres, the screw washer fixing needs to be tightened into the board until the screw head is flush with the surface. After, the joints should be re-enforced with glass fibre tape.
Although not always a necessity over wood subfloors, insulation will still greatly increase the response rate and overall efficiency of all underfloor heating systems. When installing heating over a concrete subfloor a suitable insulation must be installed as un-insulated concrete will drain the heat from the heating system.
We recommend using Living Heat Tile Backer Boards. They are availible in 6, 10, 20 & 30mm thickness. They are designed to insulate and resurface walls and floors. They are fixed in place with a flexible adhesive (on floors) and screws and washers (on walls). As well as being a superior insulation for underfloor heating, they are the perfect choice for wetroom & bathroom walls.
